How to NOT Gain Weight on Vacation

Mar 20, 2025

Today, I want to share some insights on how to maintain your fasting lifestyle while traveling, whether you're on vacation or a business trip. Many women express concerns about potential weight gain and feeling unwell during travel due to a break from their routine. However, it's crucial to remember that the choices we make when our usual structure is absent are what influence our experiences and outcomes.

Practical Tips for Fasting While Traveling

Before You Leave

The journey begins even before you step out of your house. I recommend starting your fast the night before your departure. This sets the tone for your travel day, helping you stay in control from the moment you leave.

During Your Travel

Travel days typically involve a lot of idle time, whether you're flying, driving, or taking a train. This is a perfect opportunity to continue fasting since your energy expenditure is minimal. Here are three simple rules I follow to avoid unnecessary eating:

  • Don't bring it: Avoid packing snacks. Food should not be used as entertainment but as nourishment.
  • Don't buy it: Skip the airport snack shops and fast-food outlets. Opt for hydrating with water or picking up a coffee to sustain you through your journey.
  • Don't accept it: Politely decline free snacks or meals on flights. These are often calorie-dense and not particularly nutritious, and they can disrupt your fasting schedule.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can maintain your fast until you reach your destination.

At Your Destination

Once you arrive, continue to fast until your first planned meal. This could extend your fasting period significantly, depending on your travel itinerary. During your stay, whether for business or pleasure, look for opportunities to fast. If your trip includes business meetings with scheduled meals, fast around those commitments. If you're on vacation, enjoy the local cuisine but be mindful of choosing foods that make you feel good and avoid those that don't agree with your body.

Returning Home

On your return journey, apply the same fasting principles as on your outbound trip. Start your fast at a strategic point during your last day away and continue until you're back home. This helps reset your hunger hormones and "drain the tanks," especially if you've indulged more than usual.

Post-Vacation Reflection

Upon returning home, continue your fasting routine to reset and start fresh. Reflect on your experiences and how well you were able to maintain your fasting lifestyle. This reflection can help you adjust your strategies for future trips.

Final Thoughts

Traveling doesn't have to mean abandoning the healthy lifestyle you've worked hard to establish. With the right mindset and preparation, you can enjoy every trip to the fullest without experiencing the common post-vacation regret. Whether you're traveling for leisure or business, the principles of intermittent fasting can be adapted to fit your schedule and enhance your overall well-being.

I hope this guide helps you navigate your next journey with ease and confidence. Remember, every trip is an opportunity to practice and perfect your fasting lifestyle, making each experience better than the last. Safe travels and happy fasting!
